If you're researching general contractors in San Francisco and comparing options like FORMA Construction, it's worth checking a few things before signing a contract: active license status, real service-area coverage, whether design and permitting are handled in-house, and how firm the pricing and timeline commitments are. Here's what we'd recommend asking any contractor — and where Solid Bay Construction SF stands on each.
WHAT TO ASK ANY SF CONTRACTOR
| Active CA contractor license | Verify on the CSLB website (cslb.ca.gov) before hiring anyone. |
|---|---|
| Service area | Confirm they regularly work in your specific neighborhood, not just "the Bay Area." |
| Design-build capability | Ask whether design, engineering, and permitting are handled in-house or subcontracted out. |
| Permit track record | Ask how they handle SF Planning and DBI review, and typical timelines. |
| Pricing structure | Ask whether estimates are fixed-price or time-and-materials, and how change orders are handled. |
